what a fantastic day we had on saturday!the weather outside was frightful,
for real!
it was POURING rain...
pouring!
but we didn't mind
because we were all cozied up
in amy's beautiful home
stitching away
with the talented, hilarious & super sweet miss alicia..
all of the ladies who came were
so ready to play
but more than that ready to
learn from & hang out with someone that they admire
& she did not disappoint!
i think that everyone walked away with some new tips
(hello! i learned how to start my embroidery thread on felt
without the tail sticking out!
if you are not a stitcher, that sounded crazy...
& maybe even if you are one...)

& we all left with a greater love for one of our favorite bloggers...
oh dear,
does this sound hopelessly gushy?
meet her for yourself
& see if you don't gush, too :)
every lady who came contributed to
making the day so great
from genvieve who brought treats & gifts for everyone
(too sweet!)
to glynis who had never embroidered before but jumped right in

to anna who was visiting a friend in portland
on the exact right weekend & came to play

& every wonderful, creative girl inbetween...
when we start our classes
we have 'circle time' (that's what i like to call it :)
& we go around & say our names, where we are from
& then answer another question that jill (& amy:) & i come up with
for the second session this time
jill remembered a post from alicia's blog
when she asked about people's first sewing experiences
or how they got started sewing...
oh my goodness, i could have sat & listened all day
it's just so fun to hear people's stories
& the road that brought them to where they are now
even just in the small (or large) area of sewing...
i loved that!

i would be so remiss (oh, serious word :)
if didn't mention the food
as alicia said 'OMG, this macaroni & cheese is amazing!'
& it was!
amy is not only the owner of a great vintage/new/cool shop
(which i will be talking about on my blog later this week
shameless plug)
& she is not onl one of the funniest ladies you will ever meet
& she not only has a gorgeous old house that is decorated to comfort & inspire
(i took pictures in the bathroom, for goodness sake)
but she is an incredible cook...
at this point if she were here she would be
telling you why this is not true
for some reason or another
but there is no other explaination for that M&C
& then second session: amaretto brie!
oh my...death by cheese, please!
there was also a squash soup with root vegetables
(& now that i think about it, maybe that's what alicia OMG-ed)
& dessert from one of the best cupcakes places in portland
i mean for goodness sake...she was a wonderful hostess!
it made us excited to do more portland come play events
& we will :)

so thanks to amy & all of the girls who came to play
& especially alicia
for making this play day one to remember...

:)
